The owners behind burger restaurant Solita have announced they will close their Mexican restaurant in Manchester.
El Taquero, which opened in 2017 behind the Manchester branch of Solita, will close in the New Year, according to the MEN.
Co-owner Simon Pogson said: “It’s just too much financial pressure. I’ve been riding a loss for 18 months now and I just can’t do it anymore.
“I really hoped that the quality would rise us up – I really believe in the food we’re cooking here, I think it’s great, but we’ve just not got the customers through the door that we need.
The location’s definitely part of it. The street’s blocked off and there’s all this building work around, but then the little backstreet curry caffs seem to be okay so I don’t know.
“It’s tough across the whole hospitality industry. Our trade’s dying out – and that’s this close to Christmas.
“The Brexit situation too. People just don’t seem to be spending money as freely as they used to.”
The closure comes almost a year after the chain closed down Solita at Winckley Square in Preston.
At the time, the owners stated that they were looking for a new site in the city but that never transpired. The Solita site in Prestwich has also since closed its doors.
The Solita site in the Northern Quarter is currently listed for sale.
The former Solita and Olive Press site in Preston has continued to be troubled in the time since.
It opened as Trinity on the Square, with new owners, in January 2019 but by March admitted to having trouble paying staff, reduced trading hours in May and closed entirely in July.
