BARRINGTON — A car driven by an elderly driver smashed though the plate glass window of the Vienna Bakery on Maple Avenue Saturday but no one was hurt.

Abby Kemble was working at the time when she heard a resounding crash, only to see a Honda CRV plunge through the front of the store. The driver apparently hit drive instead of reverse.

“The sound was so scary I didn’t look,” she said Sunday. “I put my hands over my head. It was a horrible, horrible, horrible shattering noise. I’m so thankful no kids were sitting at the table. It didn’t hit anyone.”

The female driver, who hasn’t been identified, walked away unscathed, Kemble said.

“She could walk and talk,” she said. “She was just shaken up and embarrassed.”

Meanwhile, the store re-opened Saturday and was open Sunday morning as well.

The Barrington police were not available for comment at this time.
