Vegan ‘heartbroken’ after KFC serves her chicken instead of plant-based burger – New York Post

A five-year vegan of Nottingham, England says she was “heartbroken” after she chomped down on chicken instead of the plant-based burger she ordered at a local KFC.

“I felt sick,” Nic Kent told Nottinghamshire Live following her meal ordeal. “I was heartbroken. It has been a long time since I first became a vegan. I went to brush my teeth after.”

Kent, 27, said that on Sunday she and her sister — who asked to remain anonymous — went to an outpost of the fast-food chain joint in the area of Clifton and Kent ordered the new vegetarian burger, while her sibling ordered a chicken sandwich with cheese.

The sisters then went home to eat the food and when Kent took a bite and swallowed it, she realized she had just eaten chicken and cheese.

“You know when you are so hungry and you do not chew?” Kent told the news outlet. “I waited a long time for it so I was hungry and I just wanted to enjoy it. Luckily it was not a big bite.”

Kent pointed out that the box her sandwich came in was labelled with the words “Zero chicken” and “ ‘Finger-lickin’ vegan.’ Until you add non-vegan stuff, obviously.”

“I’ve been vegan for five years so I know damn well that was not any plant-based stuff,” said Kent, who is also lactose intolerant. “I could feel all the skin going down my throat.”

“I have not had cheese in a long time so it did make me very sick,” she added.

Kent said she’s not a “militant vegan,” but was “so grateful that KFC” started providing meatless options.

Now the vegan says she’s “disappointed” and believes that KFC does not “care about vegans or about animal welfare – it’s just about money.”

KFC offered the sisters a free meal after Kent reported what happened to manager.

“But I do not trust them anymore,” she said.

A KFC spokesperson said in a statement to Nottinghamshire Live: “We’re really sorry for what happened with Nic’s order – we got it wrong on this occasion.”

“We offered a full refund straight away and a replacement Vegan Burger, but we realize it’s super important we don’t slip up – particularly when it comes to allergens,” the spokesperson said.

The statement went on to say, “We’ve followed up with our teams to remind them of the importance of getting the right order to the right customer – and we’ll keep doing everything we can to prevent this happening again.”
