The Brazilian buffer restaurant was lauded by Yelp users for its tasty meats, excellent service and great value.

MARLBOROUGH – Customers entering Pruller Restaurant in the city’s French Hill neighborhood are welcomed with a warm greeting from Erich Pruller and his staff.

“We like to make a customer feel like he’s coming to a friend’s house,” said Pruller, owner of the Lincoln Street Brazilian buffet restaurant. “We want to make you feel at home.”

The warm and attentive customer service is just one of the reasons the eatery made Yelp’s list of Top 100 Places to Eat in 2020. Pruller is one of three Massachusetts restaurants to make the list, joining JJ’s Café in Brockton and Carmelina’s in Boston.

To create the list, a team of data scientists at Yelp pulled together the top restaurants based on ratings and the number of reviews in 2019. The list was then curated by Yelp’s community managers across the country to finalize the rankings, according to Yelp’s website.

The eatery received four-and-a-half stars on 233 reviews on the popular website. Reviewers characterized Pruller as a neighborhood gem that offers authentic Brazilian food, a great value and superb service.

Pruller was surprised when he got word his restaurant made the list.

“I thought it was a joke,” he said with a laugh. “It was a big surprise. To have an honor like that is really amazing. It’s been crazy. We are really thankful for all the customers that made it happen.”

Pruller, of Holliston, worked as a cook at JJ McKays in Wayland for 12 years before deciding to open his own restaurant at the urging of a friend. The friend owned a Brazilian restaurant at Pruller’s current location, but was retiring. Pruller and his family have owned the restaurant for the past seven years.

“When I left, I decided to try something new,” he said.

A highlight of the restaurant is its open kitchen, which allows hungry customers to see how the succulent sirloins, garlic beef and barbecue are prepared. Prueller and his staff often detail how they cook the meats to new customers.

“Everything is cooked right in front of you,” said Pruller. “Everything is cooked from scratch. There’s nothing from bags or frozen.”

The eatery specializes in meat, but offers fresh fish, vegetables and salads daily.

Cooks Alex Silva and Bruno Jacona lauded the family-like atmosphere among the employees.

“We work as a team to make it good for the customers,” said Silva, who has worked at Pruller for the past seven years.

January and February is often a slow time at Pruller, but business has been booming since Yelp’s list was announced a few weeks ago. Prueller has seen several new faces visit the restaurant along with his loyal regulars.

“This has really been good for business,” said Pruller. “It’s helping us.”

Pruller is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
