TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)– Dillon’s pastry chef and expert cake decorator created the Kansas Day birthday cake for the annual celebration of state heritage at the Kansas State Capitol.

Each year, the Kansas Historical Society gives the bakers a theme to follow.

This year’s cake honors a special exhibit at the Kansas Museum of History called “Upward to Equality: Kansas Women Fight to Vote.”

The exhibit will open March 20th, 2020.

This years cake had a special connection to the baker that made it.

“It is the 19th amendment so the women’s right to vote. We’re celebrating 100 years and Kansas was actually the 8th state to allow women to vote. To be a female and able to decorate an all women cake, it’s inspiring because these women went through a lot to give us the future and the present that we know,” said pastry chef Lauren Berg.

The cake will be delivered to the State Capitol for the Annual Celebration of State Heritage on Wednesday.
