Wonder no more if you’ve found yourself asking, “What happened to Oh Snap! Cupcakes?” in East Hill.
The Pensacola bakery at 707 E. Cervantes St. re-branded late last year to Petunia’s Bakery, marking a fresh start to complement owner Dana Dugas’ fresh-baked gourmet goodies.
Plus, the re-brand comes with a brief but adorable backstory.
“Petunia is the name of my potbelly pig,” said Dugas, who felt like the bakery needed a new identity. “She’s 5 years old.”
Aside from the pig-inspired name change, the bakery on Cervantes hasn’t strayed too far away from the Oh! Snap playbook — Petunia’s churns out the same recipes made by the same employees in the same location, right beside the East Hill UPS store.

“We specialize in gourmet cupcakes, but we also specialize in vegan, gluten-free and all-free, which is vegan and gluten-free together,” Dugas said.
Petunia’s is also a go-to in East Hill and East Pensacola Heights for made-to-order wedding and birthday cakes.
Dugas worked as a baker under former Oh Snap! owner Lee Newkirk for two years. When Newkirk made plans to retire in November 2019, Dugas bought the company and inherited the property lease.
There are nods to Pensacola up and down the Petunia’s menu, from “The Blue Angel”(lemon and blueberry cupcakes topped with cream cheese frosting) to “The Blackwater” (chocolate and coffee cupcake with an espresso buttercream).
Then there’s the Graffiti Bridge cupcake, a vanilla cupcake buried in layers and layers of sprinkles, an homage to the seemingly endless layers of paint caked onto the iconic Pensacola bridge. The Graffiti Bridge cupcake is finished off with a little candy “paint” chip on top.
“I’m a Pensacola native and I love our landmarks around town, so I’ve tried to incorporate them in,” Dugas said. “I have a cinnamon-sugar and brown-sugar cupcake and I call it ‘The Bluffs.’ It’s like the colors of the sands of the Bluffs.”
Dugas’ vegan and gluten-free cupcakes, brownies, cookies and other treats are marked daily. Give Petunia’s a call at 850-466-3363 to learn more about those specials. The bakery also does made-to-order vegan, gluten-free and all-free items.
“There are more allergies and people are more aware of their allergies than ever before,” Dugas said, explaining the benefits of gluten-free options. “Especially with kids, so it’s important.”
Petunia’s is open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sundays. Feast your eyes on the full menu on the Petunia’s website.
