PARKERSBURG — Local chefs are bringing their culinary expertise to a fundraiser this month to support the West Virginia Symphony League-Parkersburg.
The Celebrity Chef Cooking School fundraiser will be held 6:30 p.m. Feb. 29 at St. Francis Xavier Church Parish Center at 609 Market St.
The West Virginia Symphony League-Parkersburg is presenting the cooking event.
A silent auction, appetizers and wine will be followed by a five-course dinner prepared by local celebrity chefs.
Providing food will be Outback Steak House with Chef Mitch Linville, blue cheese pecan chopped salad and pumpernickel bread; Texas Road House-Christopher Carlson (managing partner), 8-ounce sauteed herb crusted boneless chicken breast; Boathouse BBQ-Steve Peters, a corn and black bean salsa served warm; Autumn Moore, of the former Paradise Grille, sponsored by Community Bank-Randy Snider, jalapeno spinach, homemade herb bread; and 5-Star Catering-Chef Yancy Roush, bananas foster with ice cream.
The celebrity chefs will demonstrate how to make their dishes and will be sharing recipes at the dinner.
The wine tasting and appetizers will be provided from 6:30-7 p.m. Appetizers provided by Red Lobster-Melinda Wilson (sales and catering manager) will be shrimp cocktail, stuffed mushrooms with crabmeat and grilled lobster tail.
Red and white wine will be provided by Stephanie Epling, owner of Der Dog Haus. A wine tasting will be provided by Chestnut Ridge Winery, owned by Teresa Holcomb.
Dinner and demonstrations begin at 7 p.m. Kiki Angelos will demonstrate saganaki, a cheese flambe, that is a popular appetizer in Greek cuisine.
The evening is being described as a fun event for a great cause.
The cost is $60 per person. All proceeds will go to the nonprofit West Virginia Symphony League-Parkersburg, which was created to assist the West Virginia Symphony-Parkersburg Board of Directors in providing classical music for the community and students of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Angelos, vice president of the West Virginia Symphony League-Parkersburg and chairwoman of the celebrity cooking school, has presented cooking schools with doctors and lawyers as the cooks but this year it was decided to have chefs and owners of restaurants provide the five-course dinner.
The local chefs are donating their time and ingredients for the dinner.
The fundraiser is sponsored by West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
The local symphony league would like for those interesting in attending to respond by Saturday.
