Bloom Bakery’s co-founder to reopen CSU shop as Fahey’s Bakehouse –

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Fahey Bakehouse, a new eatery from one of the founders of Bloom Bakery, is slated to open at 1938 Euclid Ave. on March 1, according to Ellen Bruno, the COO of the Fahey Group.

Bruno confirmed that the name of the shop will be “Fahey Bakery.” The business is listed on Fahey Group’s website, with a short description: “Formerly Bloom Bakery, Fahey Bakehouse is a social enterprise bakery in Downtown Cleveland.”

The bakery will take over Bloom’s former location on Cleveland State University’s campus. It closed — along with its Public Square counterpart — in November of 2019.

Shortly after both Bloom Bakery locations closed, Logan Fahey (the original founder of Bloom) started discussions about acquiring the shop’s space.

In 2016, Fahey had teamed up with artisan baker Maurice Chaplais and the nonprofit Towards Employment to open the bakery, which hired previously incarcerated individuals and gave them skills and experience for employment in culinary fields.

Towards Employment shuttered Bloom in 2019, stating that it would focus on more impactful avenues for its mission of offering professional opportunities to people with criminal records.

Fahey acquired the Euclid location in late November of 2019, leaving Bloom Bakery’s other location (200 Public Square) closed. According to a November 2019 press release from Bruno, the new concept would continue Bloom’s mission: “to provide hope and a new start to people in our community who just need a chance to prove what they can do.”

“In addition, we will be providing a wide variety of high-quality products for consumers and catering customers,” Bruno also said in the press release. “We believe in this business model, and we are confident in our long-term prospects for success and growth in this area.”
