German frozen food company FRoSTA Foodservice GmbH has launched a new range of vegan plant-based seafood alternatives under its “Fisch vom Feld” (Fish from the Field) brand.
Comprising 3 kilogram boxes of either vegan pre-baked plant-based fish cakes, vegan pre-fried breaded plant-based fish, or vegan pre-fried crispy breaded plant-based fillets, the products will initially be available from May in restaurants and cafeterias in Germany. It is expected the range will later be rolled out to other European foodservice markets.
According to the vegan business magazine, Vegconomist, the products consist of various light vegetables, hemp protein, and linseed oil as an omega-3 source. All three are free of declarable additives on the menu. They contain no flavor enhancers (including yeast extracts), aromas, colorings or preservatives.
“We have been developing for a long time, because our claim is always to do without aromas, colorings and flavor enhancers or yeast extract. Now we have done it, we have created a plant-based fish product that completely satisfies our high demands. And that is what the gastronome can expect from FRoSTA. Now every day is ‘fish-free day.’” FRoSTA Foodservice Managing Director Burkhard Gabbe was reported to have said.
FRoSTA Foodservice GmbH is a subsidiary of FRoSTA AG, based in Bremerhaven, Germany. Specializing in frozen fish, vegetables, fruits, herbs and ready-to-eat meals across the three segments of brand business, private label and foodservice, FRoSTA owns production facilities in Germany and Poland, with sales and distribution subsidiaries in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, and Russia.
