Being surrounded by five nationally-known chain restaurants does not bother Nick Terziu, owner of Bella Sera — Marshalltown’s newest restaurant.

And why not?

Because Terziu said Bella Sera’s food is unique.

“We make every order from scratch,” he said. “Bella Sera is different.”

Terziu can back up his experience-backed claim because he knows customers want fresh food.

Spaghetti and meatballs is one of several house pasta dishes at Bella Sera.

The restaurant offers a wide selection ranging from appetizers to house pastas to seafood and chicken entrees.

Linguine pescatore, lobster ravioli, and tortellini all-panna on the menu back up Terziu’s claim that he is offering authentic Italian fare.

Bella Sera pizza, house-baked pasta, salads and desserts round out the menu.

Customers will find traditional favorites such as fettuccine alfredo, spaghetti and meatballs and lasagne.

The restaurant opened in February and Terziu said the business has received compliments for food and service.

He is no stranger to the restaurant business, having owned and operated two restaurants in Texas before coming to Marshalltown.

His cousin Bennie owns and operates the Bella Sera Restaurant in Denison.

“I had been looking at Marshalltown for awhile but needed time to find a suitable location,” Terziu said.

It turned out to be in the Best Western Regency Inn complex, 3303 S. Center St.

Best Western management extensively remodeled a large space to accommodate Bella Sera, he said.

“They did a good job,” Terziu said.

Bella Sera — Italian for nice evening — is easy to find in the large facility. The restaurant has a separate entrance facing South Center Street/Highway 14.

It is open six days a week, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Monday.

Catering and take-out are available.
