KALAMAZOO, MI — The popular Italian restaurant Zazios will be replaced with a new restaurant in the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites downtown Kalamazoo, according to city.
The site plans from Greenleaf Hospitality Group, which operates the Radisson, were posted on the city’s Community Planning & Economic Development website. The plans show the renovation of the space for a new restaurant concept.
Greenleaf Hospitality Group CEO Tim Rayman said the changes are still in the planning stages and wouldn’t take place until 2021 and beyond.
“We regularly examine our retail restaurant offerings and plan for future opportunities and trends to adjust, renovate refresh and rebrand where appropriate,” he said.
Rayman did not confirm if a new restaurant has been chosen to replace Zazios. The Radisson location at 100 W Michigan Ave is Zazios only location, according to its website.
The restaurant interior will have a new layout and all new finishes, according to the site plan. The plan also proposes a flat roof with skylights to allow additional light into the space.
The plan includes a building addition of approximately 1,360 square-foot for the new restaurant.
The addition will expand the existing dining terrace outside Zazios and become part of the main dining room. The addition will have a series of large operable windows that can be fully opened in the warmer months, according to the site plan.
The site plan is still awaiting approval of the Downtown Design Review Committee.
