These Are the Cities and States That Have Ordered Bar and Restaurant Shutdowns – Grub Street

After a week with very little guidance, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio announced last night that he would shut down restaurants and bars across the five boroughs, limiting them to takeout and delivery only.

De Blasio joined a growing number of officials who’ve ordered the service industry to shut down most of its operations, including Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti and Washington State governor Jay Inslee. Here are all the states, cities, and municipalities that have officially ordered restaurants and bars to partially cease operations until the spread of coronavirus is under control.

  • Washington State — Dine-in service prohibited until further notice
  • New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey — Dine-in service prohibited until further notice
  • Ohio — Dine-in service prohibited until further notice
  • Illinois — Dine-in service prohibited until March 30
  • Massachusetts — Dine-in service prohibited until April 17
  • New York City — Dine-in service prohibited until further notice
  • Los Angeles — Dine-in service prohibited until March 31
  • Washington, D.C. — Suspensions on bar seating and standing room. Tables and booths must be six feet apart
  • Hoboken, New Jersey — Bars closed, dine-in service prohibited until further notice
  • California — Official guidance, but no outright ban
  • Allegheny, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties, Pennsylvania — Dine-in service prohibited until March 30
  • Nashville, Tennessee — Closure of Davidson County bars; 50 percent capacity at all other restaurants and bars, standing room prohibited
  • Dallas, Texas — Dine-in service prohibited until further notice
