Matt Baker has made the most of his coronavirus quarantine – as he baked Alex Jones a birthday cake.

The One Show host is currently self-isolating at home, after someone in his household developed a cough.

But the 42-year-old wasn’t about to let the outbreak stop him from celebrating his co-host’s big day, as he showed off a treat he had cooked up.

Despite the fact the birthday girl couldn’t actually eat any of it…

Closing the show, Alex – who turned 43 on 18 March – crossed over to her pal via a live-link, telling him: ‘And Matt, I suppose I’ll see you virtually, I’m not sure!’

‘You will, you will,’ he replied. ‘But listen, I didn’t want to finish the show without pointing out that it’s somebody’s birthday today!

‘And, when one is self-isolating, one can bake as well… So Al, I’ve made you a cake.’

As a thrilled Alex watched on, the 42-year-old blew out the candles for her.

’And now I’m going to eat the cake on your behalf with my wonderful family,’ he added.

Well, the thought was there…

Matt revealed on Tuesday’s instalment that he would be working from home for the foreseeable future, as a precautionary measure.

Appearing via a video message, beside his adorable dog, he told those watching on from home: ‘Yes, well I am at home and [pointing to his dog] this is my Alex Jones for tonight and probably for the next two weeks.

‘This afternoon we got a phonecall, there’s four of us here in this household and one of us has a cough.

‘So we’re following the Prime Minister’s guidelines and now spending the next two weeks self-isolating.

‘I kind of expected this to come and feel as ready as we can do.

‘We’re more than happy to do our bit and do what’s right for everybody, look out for our neighbours.’

But Matt wasn’t resting on his laurels, and carried on with co-hosting duties from his sofa.

Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid has also taken similar measures, and is self-distancing at home.

In a message shared on Twitter, she told fans: ‘I am currently well but due to the new advice today I will be self-isolating for two weeks due to symptoms in my household.

‘Stay well everyone.’

The One Show continues on weekdays, at 7pm, on BBC One.
