Even during the coronavirus pandemic, metro Phoenix diners can find a variety of restaurants serving vegan and vegetarian versions of Cajun, Indian, Mexican and Thai dishes.

Restaurants must abide by instructions from the governor’s office to close dining rooms and switch to takeout, delivery or drive-thru service to try and slow the spread of the virus. But these vegan and vegetarian restaurants are doing what they can to serve the community by offering plant-based food and drink. 

Here are 10 coffee shops, restaurants and cafes offering vegan and vegetarian dishes for takeout and delivery.

Dark Hall Coffee

Dark Hall Coffee serves a fully vegan coffee menu and an impressive rotating variety of vegan baked goods all available to go. Brighten your day with a matcha latte or creamy golden mylk made with nut milk. Recent options on the ever changing vegan sweets menu include Funfetti cinnamon rolls, plumb crumble cake and hot pink hibiscus scones. Dark Hall Coffee is also available for delivery on third party app Postmates.

The Coronado

Sister restaurant to Dark Hall Coffee, The Coronado serves as many concepts rolled into one. The coffee shop, restaurant and cocktail bar serves a menu of vegetarian treats with many vegan options as well. Grab a cup of coffee with a selection of alternative milks and try a vegan baked good or a vegetarian lunch of cauliflower tacos, a mushroom burger or a salad. The Coronado is also currently selling wine, Wren House beer and Wild Tonic hard kombucha for takeout. Order online at thecoronadophx.square.site.

Urban Beans

Urban Beans vegan coffee shop, restaurant and bar is open 24 hours a day every day of the week, and currently that means takeout at any time. Sip on coffee with nut milk and chow down on a vegan lasagna at midnight if the feeling strikes. Coffee options are available with soy, almond or coconut milk and pair with a variety of vegan baked goods including pear almond scones, espresso walnut brownies and dark chocolate mocha cupcakes. Vegan House

This downtown Phoenix restaurant serves a vegan menu of Asian dishes and sandwiches. Start with veggie pot stickers or edamame and then choose from main dishes including seafood hot pot made with vegan shrimp, pumpkin peanut curry or pad Thai. Dessert options are also available, including sweet purple rice with mango and fried bananas with coconut ice cream. Round out your meal with a Thai coffee with soy milk or a hot jasmine tea. 24 Carrots Natural Cafe

This vegan cafe in Tempe focuses on food and drinks that are good for people and the planet. Find produce from local farms in the cafe’s fresh smoothies, salads and sandwiches, all packaged in compostable containers to go. Start your day with a sea salt cold brew and carrot cake pancakes or feast on a bowl of dan dan noodles for dinner. The cafe is also currently creating family sized meals ready to pick up on specific days; check social media for up-to-date details. 24 Carrots is open for takeout Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. with last orders accepted at 8 p.m. The restaurant closes at 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Desert Roots Kitchen

Menus are currently rotating daily at this Tempe vegan cafe. Check the cafe’s Facebook page for daily menus featuring a wrap of the day along with sides such as teriyaki pilaf, maple dijon lentil salad and mac n’ peas. Curbside takeout is available at the cafe and delivery is available through third party app Postmates.

Giving Tree Cafe

Giving Tree Cafe specializes in both vegetarian and gluten-free foods and is located close to downtown Phoenix. Breakfast is served all day along with a menu of bowls, tacos and salads. Daily specials include soup and quesadillas. The restaurant currently offers takeout and delivery.

Mi Vegana Madre

Mi Vegana Madre specializes in vegan recreations of classic recipes passed down from mothers, aunts and grandmothers in the owners’ family. The menu includes vegan Mexican food options like tacos, burritos, tortas and aguas frescas. The restaurant is open for takeout, and delivery is available on third party apps Postmates and Uber Eats.

Earth Plant Based Cuisine

This plant based restaurant offers a menu of tacos, sandwiches, vegan buffalo wings and loaded fries. Open every day except Mondays, the downtown Phoenix restaurant is now serving vegan food for takeout and delivery.

Maya’s Cajun Kitchen

Maya’s Cajun Kitchen is a vegan catering business specializing in Cajun food from owner Maya Bartlett’s upbringing in Shreveport, Louisiana. At her Mesa kitchen, the chef recreates favorites like jambalaya. Currently, the kitchen is offering delivery and pickup on Wednesdays and by appointment. Food options include mac and cheese topped with smoked jackfruit, vegan shrimp and grits and southern peach cobbler.
