Tua Tagovailoa’s NFL Draft celebration was made a little sweeter Thursday night by Dreamcakes Cafe in Hoover.
The bakery whipped up a custom cake that marked the University of Alabama quarterback’s first-round pick by the Miami Dolphins. Dreamcakes displayed its creation today on its Facebook page, saying, “It was so hard to keep this secret! We made Tua’s NFL Draft cake for last night’s pick. Needless to say we were thrilled to be picked too! He was so kind and friendly. A beautiful person inside and out. Congrats Tua! There will be a lot of new Dolphins fans today.”
Dreamcakes, which has locations in Hoover and Homewood, is owned by Dwight Potter and Jan Moon Potter.
“Honored to have Tua and his family pick Dreamcakes Bakery for his celebration cakes. (We made his father’s BDay cake too),” Dwight Potter said on Facebook. “We had to deliver to a secret location and got to meet them this week. Nice guy and hope he goes far as a Miami Dolphin. (He is a client so I was nice and didn’t say War Eagle once) I can cheer for Miami.”
Potter studied business at Auburn University, according to his Facebook profile.
Tagovailoa, 22, the No. 5 pick in the draft, celebrated his selection at his family’s home in Alabaster with his parents, Diane and Galu, his brother Taulia and his agent Leigh Steinberg.
“It was awesome,” Tagovailoa said during a Zoom call with reporters after being selected. “It was very emotional for me and my family. It hasn’t just been a dream of mine to make this happen. It’s been my entire family’s dream. I’ve been very blessed to say I carry all of them up here with me.”
