If lockdown has made you realise that you’re not going to be the next Mary Berry (check out these baking fails), this is the recipe for you.

This Nutella chocolate cake calls for merely two ingredients, meaning it’s almost impossible to mess up.

The ‘cheap, easy and delicious’ recipe was shared by chef Rob Nixon from Perth, Australia, on TikTok, where it has racked up 13,000 views so far.

All you need to make his popular creation is eight eggs and a jar of Nutella.

Start by setting the oven to 180 degrees.

Then beat your eggs into a nice silky white foam.

Rob uses an electric mixing bowl, but if you don’t have one in your house, do it the old-fashioned way – though this will likely take vigorous wrist movement as it needs to be at a high enough speed for the eggs to go fluffy.

Once that’s done, keep beating the eggs (slower now) while gradually drizzling in half a jar’s worth of the hazelnut spread, which is about 240g.

To make the process easier, make sure the Nutella is nice and smooth before you begin.

Take it out of the fridge half an hour before you start, if you’re working with an already-opened jar.

Once the two ingredients are mixed together, the foam should morph into a liquid batter.

Pour this into a baking tin and pop it into the oven for 40 minutes.

But keep an eye on it, and stick a wooden stick into it around half an hour in to check if it’s still gooey.

When it’s done, take it out, let it cool and decorate.

Rob has chosen strawberries and icing sugar, but you could skip that altogether and just relish in the nutty chocolatey flavour on its own.

‘Cheap and easy to make, and tastes delicious,’ said Rob, who runs the account Nicko’s Kitchen, which has over 45,000 followers on TikTok.

After you’ve successfully baked and eaten the Nutella cake, you could give some of Rob’s other recipes a go, such as the Kit Kat brownies, chocolate lava cakes and – for a savoury snack – the ‘Subway meatball sub’.
