Eau Claire (WQOW)- A local moving company provided dozens of residents in need with some much-needed food assistance on Friday.

About 70 community members showed up at the office of Dan the Moving Man Friday morning, where the company provided them with some of their favorite foods and drinks.

Through donations and personal purchases, employees collected roughly 700 pounds of food and 120 gallons of milk for the giveaway.

The owner told News 18 he’s enjoyed hearing the positive responses to his event from people in the community.

“They’re very appreciative, they don’t see many businesses doing this. They see a lot of food drives but they don’t see a lot of businesses going around and doing this,” said Tyler Heath, owner of Dan the Moving Man.

One Eau Claire resident told News 18 she first heard about the event on Facebook and spread the news to her friends, who say they are grateful that a local business is stepping up to help those in need.

“Honestly, it’s a lifesaver,” said Chelsea Coleman, an Eau Claire resident who picked up goods from the food and milk drive. “I haven’t been able to make a food pantry yet, and also this is the only one that I know of that gives out milk. He’s not only helping us, but the farmers too, so that’s awesome.”

Heath said he hopes to keep hosting more food and milk drives as long as his business stays busy and he can afford to do so.
