Biba Restaurant in Sacramento is closing its doors after 33 years.The family that owns the restaurant announced the closure on Facebook Sunday afternoon.“The time has come for Biba Restaurant to say arrivederci,” the restaurant said. “Our beloved restaurant community has been shuttered and with the uncertainty of what the future holds, we are unable to wait out this storm.”The closure comes months after restaurant owner and Sacramento culinary icon Biba Caggiano died at the age of 82 in August.Caggiano opened Biba in 1986 after hosting cooking classes on authentic Italian food.Over the years, Sacramento’s food scene came alive, and Biba’s became known for its award-winning cuisine.“It has been a wonderful ride and we have loved sharing in our customers’ celebrations, anniversaries and special memories,” the Caggiano family said in the statement.The family also thanked its employees for their years of service and said they felt blessed being part of Sacramento’s culinary community.“When the time comes, restaurants will thrive once again and people will come together to celebrate over delicious meals prepared by talented chefs and served by gracious wait staff,” the family said.
