Frasca nabs Outstanding Restaurant nomination from James Beard Foundation – The Daily Camera

Restaurant News

As local restaurants have been upended, many struggling to survive amid the temporary COVID-19 shutdowns, a couple Boulder notables have something to celebrate. Today, the James Beard Foundation announced its 2020 finalists and Frasca Food and Wine nabbed a national nomination for Outstanding Restaurant.

Frasca, which focuses on using locally sourced ingredients, has been nominated for the same award in the past, and last year it won the Outstanding Hospitality award. The creation of Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson, Frasca plates cuisine from Italy’s Friuli-Venezia Giulia region and is known for its extensive wine list.

A “Top Chef” finalist with Boulder ties, Carrie Baird has been honored with a nomination as a regional Best Chef in the mountain region (Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming) for her work at Denver’s Bar Dough. Earlier this year, Baird resigned her post as executive chef and partner of the Italian restaurant to focus on her Boulder endeavor, Rose’s Classic Americana in Rosetta Hall. Baird has also teamed up with Boulder’s Natascha Hess, chef and owner of The Ginger Pig, to form the restaurant group called “That’s What She Said.”

Other Colorado chefs nominated in the same category areDenver’s Kelly Whitaker for The Wolf’s Tailor and Dana Rodriguez for Super Mega Bien, and Caroline Glover for Annette in Aurora. Todd Leopold and Scott Leopold of Leopold Bros. in Denver snagged Colorado’s only other national-level award for the category of Outstanding Wine, Beer, or Spirits Producer.

The winners were slated to be announced today, but the James Beard Foundation shifted its focus to relief and rebuild efforts, disbursing more than $4 million nationally to independent, locally owned restaurants over the past two months, according to its website.

The 2020 James Beard Foundation Awards winners will be announced Sept. 25 in Chicago.
