DULUTH, MN– A Duluth staple, Positively 3rd Street Bakery, is asking for community donations to help them replace their old standing mixer.
The Hobart mixer has been with the co-operation since its opening in 1983 and is now on its last leg.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic 3rd Street Bakery says they have lost close to half of their business. With this loss in revenue a new mixer is something that they cannot afford on their own.
Positively 3rd Street says that they have applied for an SBA loan, but with the current situation they have yet to hear back.
“We’re all pretty dedicated but yeah, it’s in the back of everybody’s mind. We’re afraid, this is unprecedented obviously. We’re lucky to be able to stay open, but it’s a scary time especially for small businesses I think” said Theresa, a baker at Positively 3rd Street.
The bakery has set up a GoFundMe page asking the community to help them reach their goal of $25,000.
“As a worker-owned-cooperative, we have a strong tradition of supporting each other and our community, but right now we need your help,” said Positively 3rd Street on their GoFundMe page.
The money that they are raising will not just go towards a new mixer, but also to pay workers, providing products, and funding their free school lunch packs.
If you would like to donate you can access the GoFundMe page here.
