FORT WAYNE, Ind (WPTA21) – May 11th is the beginning of Phase 3 for reopening the state. That includes hair salons, barber shops, spas, and restaurants.
Welch’s Ale House was one of the few restaurants to close down during the stay at order.
Front house manager at welches says “At that time we made the decision that if the intention of the stay at home order was to keep people healthy and safe. The amount of business that we do would carry out would nominal”.
During the closure, the restaurant spent its off time refurbishing the place. David tells us “we’ve refinishing the floors in the back. we are doing additional seating in the patio and I mean who knows if we get to use the additional seating going forward”.
May 11th will allow restaurants to be open at 50% capacity . Unfortunately Welche’s Ale House chooses to remain closed
“Until people feel safe enough to come to restaurants. People aren’t gonna come to restaurants until they feel confident” says David.
Welch’s Ale House is being cautious about the Reopening because a lot can happen.
The manager say “If we do reopen and two weeks from now and infection rates are so up high; that the governor decides, okay you know what maybe we are gonna step off the gas. We need restaurants to go to carry out. Now you spent that money you got all that stuff delivered like; the food is just sitting there, the beer is just sitting there”.
The restaurant will hang back for a few weeks and plans to reopen in the beginning of June.
