BAY CITY, MI – One of the South End’s old-school bakeries will no longer be serving up baked goods to customers in Bay City.
Barney’s Bakery at 412 S. Van Buren, announced on social media on Monday, May 25 that the bakery will be shutting down indefinitely, thanking customers for their patronage. Barney’s Bakery, which was originally opened in 1929, said the closure was due to “unfortunate circumstances.”
Staff at Barney’s Bakery declined to comment on Tuesday regarding the closure.
The bakery had just announced on May 12 that it finished doing upgrades to the store. The business just re-opened its doors on Tuesday, May 19, to serve customers after being closed since March 23 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order.
Aside from staple bakery items like fresh bread, pastries and cakes, Barney’s Bakery was also a popular stop for the traditional Fat Tuesday paczki. This year, the bakery was still making and selling paczki and offered numerous flavors like raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, custard, lemon, cherry and apple.
