Ginger Ovens, a bakery and coffee shop, has opened in Fowler Lake Village.
Located at 219 E. Pleasant St., Oconomowoc, Ginger Ovens is owned by Jonathan Sandor. After working a number of jobs in the food service industry, Sandor felt it was time to be his own boss.
“I’ve learned what not to do from all these other past job experiences,” Sandor said. “I felt comfortable getting into this endeavor.”
The business makes everything from scratch and roasts its own coffee, according to Sandor. Since its soft opening Aug. 8, Sandor said the bakery’s best-selling treat has been the cinnamon roll. Ginger Ovens held its grand opening Aug. 15.
Sandor, who attended Waukesha County Technical College for baking and pastry, said the bakery’s name celebrates redheads.
“Redheads are very underappreciated people,” Sandor said with a laugh. “We like to have fun with that.”
Sandor said the location was perfect for his new bakery.
“The building was a great opportunity,” Sandor said. “It’s basically right on Fowler Lake, and you can get a nice little peak of the lake from the window … I just love the atmosphere of the city.”
Once a website is established for the business, Sandor said Ginger Ovens will offer online ordering.
“We’ll get it, we’ll make it and then you’ll get a text when it’s ready,” Sandor said.
