The pandemic has brought out a need to turn to comforting, predictable food for a lot of us. While Lotus cheesecakes and garden focaccia might be storming the internet, there’s no denying the guaranteed satisfaction that comes with an old-school recipe, like a classic marble cake. Mira Rajput Kapoor knows this, as the star shared a psychedelic in-progress photo of her cake batter, with the resonant hashtags “#goodolclassic” and “#lifeisbetterwithbutter.” If you’re looking to whip up a chocolate marble cake just like Rajput Kapoor’s, check out this recipe we sourced from the Mumbai-based bakery, Plattered.
Recipe: Chocolate marble cake
Preheat the oven to 180C. Grease and line an 8″ round cake tin.
Cream butter and sugar with an electric whisk till white and fluffy (approximately 5 minutes).
Add eggs one at a time and whisk after each addition.
Fold in the flour into the creamed mixture. Add vanilla extract.
Spoon half the batter into another bowl. Fold unsweetened cocoa and milk into the batter and mix gently.
Place alternate spoonfuls of each cake batter into the tin, and drag a skewer through to create a marble effect.
Bake in pre-heated oven for 30-35 minutes until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
Let cake cool slightly and then remove to wire rack to cool further.
